1. What if I can't find what I'm looking for?

NICD will help you locate the information and/or resource you are looking for. This may be located on our web site, an outside source on the Internet, through a contact phone number, or a snail mail address. We will do our best to assist you in getting the information you need. Try our "Internal Search Engine", "Site Map", and/or "Navigation" pages first. Using these resources first will speed up the process of getting to the information you are looking for, as it may takes us a while to get back to you with the resources you are seeking to find on our site. If you still cannot find it, please use the email contact link above to let us know your request. In most cases we attempt to respond within 24-48 hours.

2. Do you provide treatment or counseling at NICD?

We do not provide any treatment, halfway housing facilities, etc. We are set-up as a National clearinghouse for information, articles, and referrals only. 4. I need help now!!! What do I do?

First thing is to pat yourself on the back for wanting to help yourself. We absolutely commend you on this!!! Next is to understand some of the hard realities of the situation you have gotten yourself into. We are going to be totally honest with you here, but keep in mind that there is help available, you'll just have to start getting into the mindset that it is going to take some work on your part to get that help- If you want the help and want to get treatment you will do what you need to do to get it, right? It is true, that life may not be fair, may not be right, but it is reality. Some people have spent years living the alcoholic and drug addicted lifestyle, and then all of a sudden they are sick of the consequences- guess what? Just because you have decided to stop does not mean the world and the places for help are going to reach out to help you. Keep in mind that resources are few, money is tight, and you are in the fight- the fight for your life. DO NOT GIVE UP!!! The disease wants you to give up hope. Now what? Please use the email contact link above and let's get started on your case.

7. Why is it called a family disease?

It is called a family disease because the alcoholic/addict is obsessed with finding and doing their drug of choice, and the family is obsessed with the problem. It is also called a family disease because it may run genetically, and other family members may have the thought and feeling patterns- how they deal with life in general- of an addict, even though they don't drink or do drugs. NICD has produced a series of articles to help with the problem. We call it "ADASK", [Alcohol and Drug Addiction Survival Kit], and you can sign up for the series through our free monthly On-line NICD News Magazine.
